I wonder what prompts the memory? What happens at the moment you remember something from long ago? Is it a smell, or a certain noise? It is an experience? Today I had to drive out to meet a woman in a gas station parking lot who was going to remove the staple she had put into my dog last weekend...stay with me here....he had an infected bump thingy and she just cut it out at the dog show last weekend and we had to meet up to get out the staple...ugh. Anyway, so we stopped by an outlet mall on the way home (I had to find one more pair of my favorite pants...which they did not have) and as we quickly crossed the street. Major Cutie says, "Mom, when I was in Eteeopeeyah my mom lifted me up and we went across the road and she put me down on that thing." I asked her what thing was that and she said, "The thing we have in Michigan?" I am still not sure what that "thing" is, they don't have sidewalks there unless the paths that are worn down seemed like side walks to her? Not sure. She said it matter of fact-ly and so I just said, "Your Ethiopian mom took really good care of you."

The memories are such a mystery. I love hearing bits and pieces of sami's life in Ethiopia. I would love to know more of what their lives were like before they came home to us.
