I thought I'd go back and read my journal of our journey to Ethiopia and our daughter and share it with you. I hope I journaled enough to keep it all fresh in my memory!! So here goes...
Our flight from Detroit to D.C. was on schedule. We were told to arrive 3 hours early which put us at the airport at around 3am; all so we could find out that the counters don't even open until 5am!! Yes we waited for 2 hours when we could still be sleeping! Ah well, we talked to a woman there from Israel (an American that was living there) and she called us an "International Family". I liked that term instead of an "interracial, or transracial" family. An international family. That sounded really neat. Anyway, our flight left on time and we arrived in D.C. with enough time to find the gate for Ethiopian Air. Yep, plenty of time since that plane left, nonchalantly, about an hour late. That's Ethiopia time for ya, no one is in a rush and everyone is happy to just get there when they do! Amazingly we still landed in Addis Ababa only 15 minutes late. Go figure. The flight was exciting because it was full of Ethiopians going home and a great big youth group from Young Life going to Uganda for a mission trip. They were a blast and we shared our adoption story with them. The reality that we were going to Ethiopia finally began to sink in as we settled for a long flight.

I wish I knew what waters these were. When I asked the man behind me he just said this river leaves out of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I don't think it's the Nile or anything.
